Jord Wood Watch Ely Series Watch in Cherry: Review and Giveaway

I have to admit this watch caused a bit of a stir when it arrived, or at least a bit of a fight between myself and my Dad as to whom would get to keep and test it (I guess at least the first thing you can say it is definitely a true unisex watch), so what makes Jord so different it had us both fighting over it? Well it's made of wood.
The idea behind Jord is to take people back to nature, away from the modern day, steel and plastic we are all so used to, each watch is hand crafted, using sustainable resources from around the world.
Jord offer a range of watches in a whole host of different shapes, sizes and woods – they actually make some rectangular faced watches that I think are just so unique. However I personally decided to choose the Ely Series watch in Cherry.
The Ely Series offers a smaller faced watched compared to others Jord make, coming in at 34mm in diameter I think it makes for the perfect everyday watch. For the movement it is fitted with a Premium Citizen Miyota with the addition of a date window, while the clasp is made from stainless steel and features a push mechanism to the sides to open and a click to close. As well as Cherry you can also pick up the Ely Series in Black, Maple and Natural Green and Maple.
The one thing me and my Dad agreed on, with being not a downside, but just a point worth mentioning, was that neither of us could really read the date, now we are both blind as bats and to work with the watch face it has to be small, but if you don't have perfect vision it could be something worth bearing in mind and if you do want an easily viewable date window to perhaps go up in face size a little.
We found the watch was a little on the big side for both myself and my Dad when it arrived, but luckily this is no problem for a Jord watch, as the later links are made to be removed if needed and of course I would much rather it was too big than too small.
In fit even though myself and my Dad have different shaped wrists the way it is linked meant it worked with both our shapes to give a comfortable fit and I have to say another great part of the wooden strap was you aren't subjected to cold straps when you first put it on.
Personally I think Jord offer a great alternative to other watches, the style is so unique and the colours from the wood just offer some beautiful choices, that alongside just how comfortable they are, well they get a huge thumbs up from me.
